The costs of checking your CELLO on a flight varies depending on carrier, domestic/international status, bikes fly free programs, and diplomacy/luck at the check in counter. Taking the CELLO on a bus or a train usually requires a small fee. Shipping your CELLO is another option which is sometimes worth considering.

Bringing your bike as luggage 1-way on domestic flights: $80.00 per check in for most airlines (Oversized Baggage Fee for Bags Over 62 Linear Inches L x W x H)
Bringing your bike 1-way on Amtrak: $5.00 per check in
Bring your bike on international flights: Free on most airlines
Bringing your bike 1-way on Greyhound: $15.00 per check in
Shipping your bike 1-way coast to coast with Greyhound shipping: APX $50.00

The prices listed above are approximations of shipping/check-in charges. Pricing policies and attitudes to accepting the CELLO at check in can vary greatly. Some diplomacy can sometimes yield dividends in avoiding extra charges. One tactic for avoiding the bias against transporting a bicycle is to claim that you are transporting something other than a bicycle, for example a “CELLO”. Most airlines apply the oversize baggage fee to any baggage that is larger than 62 linear inches (L x W x H) but there are many exceptions to this rule. It is difficult to plan around these inconsistencies in pricing policies, therefore always plan on paying the normal fees.
